Directions and Connections

Hello…Goodbye!

This is that special transition time of the year when we say goodbye to our seniors and their parents and hello to our incoming freshmen families.  We have spent four years getting to know you and we will miss you.  Welcome new Grizzlies!  We are currently focused on Senior events, clearing seniors for graduation, summer credit recovery registration, master schedule issues, 4-year plan reviews, individual guidance lessons, and keeping students connected through the updating of our counseling website and through Naviance.

Verification of Courses/Request for Course Change (for next year’s classes!) - DONE!

All requests for changes have now been processed for next year.  Although we were unable to accommodate all of the requests, we were able to make many of the requested changes.  Keep in mind that until our master schedule is finalized (still in process) for next year and students are officially scheduled into periods it remains to be seen if any particular student’s schedule will actually work.  In cases where the eight preferred courses cannot all work into a student’s schedule, the use of alternates will then come into play.

Required Testing for College Bound Juniors

A reminder that in order to be eligible for 4-year colleges all students must take the SAT and/or ACT exams.  Juniors should take those exams before they leave for the summer.  Students who want to repeat the test in an effort to raise their scores can do so in the early fall of their senior year.  All testing must be done no later than December of the senior year for most colleges while some colleges require testing to be done by October.  Check with specific campuses for more information or contact the Career Center if you have questions regarding this.

Summer Session Credit Recovery

Summer Session Credit Recovery applications are available now. Students need to see their counselor or the front desk (no appointments necessary during lunch times) to pick up a form, get parent signatures, and then return to us for processing. Since there could be limited spaces in the summer session of Credit Recovery, it is extremely important that

students get registration forms in as soon as possible. Classes will be offered as Online “Blended” courses requiring students to attend weekly on-site meetings with the teacher. Any student who failed a required course for graduation should make plans to attend this summer session. Due to budget restraints Summer School is limited to students who failed a course (F grade) during the regular school year.  Summer Session is limited to the following courses: English 9,English 10, English 11, World Studies, US History, Health and Safety, Algebra 1, Geometry, Earth Science and Biology. Since four year colleges require a C or better in college prep courses, any student who received a D in a college prep course should plan to inquire about their A-G online Recovery options for the fall of 2012.  Applications will be available at the start of school 2012. Summer session of Credit Recovery will be held at Independence High School located at 125 Berry St., Roseville 95678 and runs from June 1st through July 27th.
